Hjorth & Partners was founded in 2014 by Emma Hjorth with a vision to simplify everyday business life for entrepreneurs. After years at the Swedish Tax Agency, Emma saw firsthand how many business owners struggled to stay on top of rules and reporting. Her later union involvement revealed how weak HR practices often led to high staff turnover, holding businesses back from growing. Emma built Hjorth & Partners around proactive, close client collaboration. The firm integrates deeply with their clients’ daily operations, often acting as a trusted sounding board beyond just financial matters.

“The most impactful part was mapping out the team functions. I realized there were so many different aspects of the team and so many roles I was handling myself, which wasn’t efficient.”

1. Which challenges were you facing before joining The Scaling School, and how did the program help you overcome them?

I definitely noticed the difference, it’s one thing to think about scaling, but it’s completely different to actually do it in a practical way. Mapping things out and putting them into action was a lot better with guidance. The Scaling School gave me the structure and dedicated time to take real steps forward. Since it was scheduled, I valued the time and used it fully. I used it as a stepping stone to make important decisions and move forward. It was helpful to have a solid system to turn ideas into action points, and a big breakthrough was identifying key roles and responsibilities in the company.”

2. What specific aspects of the program had the biggest impact on the way forward with your business?

“The most impactful part was mapping out the team functions. I realized there were so many different aspects of the team and so many roles I was handling myself, which wasn’t efficient. As a result, we decided to bring in external help in several areas. The customer segmentation part was also incredibly valuable. We color-coded our offerings and identified our key clients in different aspects. It helped us focus our sales efforts where they would be most effective. Essentially, it taught us to prioritize.”

3. What was your favorite part of the program, and why?

“My favorite part was the “values” and “small bubbles” exercise. It had such a big impact on our company, helping us gain clarity on where we—and specifically me as a founder—should put our time for the most value. The customer segmentation exercise was also really valuable. It helped us focus our sales efforts in the right areas. Overall, it taught us how to prioritize what matters most.”

4. How did The Scaling School help you grow or scale your business? Can you share any tangible results or improvements?

“The Scaling School helped us identify inefficiencies, particularly in the way I was managing so many roles myself. We hired external consultants to address this, such as an IT consultant, which significantly improved our internal processes. Beyond that, the program gave us the tools to scale strategically. We’ve seen improvements in both our internal culture and communication. Our business is growing, with increased profitability and revenue, and we’re better equipped to make the right investments. I’ve also gained a better view of my time and how to spend it most valuably.”

5. Would you recommend The Scaling School to other entrepreneurs or businesses (and why)?

“I think everyone should do this program because it gives you valuable insights. What attracted me initially was that it wasn’t just aimed at tech companies. I found it through the Stockholm Stad website, and it stood out because most other programs have specific entry criteria—like needing to be in tech, being a certain size, or only a few years old. Even though we’ve been around for 10 years, we’re still growing, and this program welcomed that. It felt more inclusive, especially in how it supported entrepreneurs from different backgrounds—that made a big difference to me.

That said, it’s especially valuable for someone like me—someone who already has a team and wants to scale. You need to have some financial stability and the willingness to grow and test out the strategies. Having employees is also helpful because you need people in place to actually test and apply the tools in practice.”
